Use of Sandalwood

Sandalwood is an evergreen tree of the family Santalaceae , reputed as “Green Gold” and mainly found in Southeast Asia, Australia and Pacific region. Sandalwood has been used for thousands of years throughout the history ,earning its global fame due to its application in wood carving and sandalwood oil extracting . In Asia, sandalwood burning is an important religious ceremony for Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. As the raw material for sandalwood oil extraction, Sandalwood heartwoods contain α-santalol, β- santalol and other ingredients, which can be utilized to formulate perfumes, condiments, soaps, fragrances, etc. Sandalwood oil is the necessary fixative of various perfumes. With anti-bacterial ingredients, Sandalwood oil is used as traditional Chinese medicine to treat various skin diseases, hemorrhoids, comedo, diarrhea, gonorrhea and other persistent diseases. Sandalwood oil is also a very effective sedative.
